Esperanza runs on community. How do you want to get involved?
Below are many of the ways you can volunteer with Esperanza. As a volunteer-run organization, we are always open to new people and new ideas. Read about our various opportunities below, and fill out this form to get involved.
Join A Committee
In addition to our volunteer board, Esperanza’s leadership comes from our committees: Scholarship, Scholar Success, Development, Communications, and Alumni. Committee co-chairs and members are responsible for running our scholar application process, recruiting mentors and pairing them with scholars, running our email and social media program, conducting our fundraising efforts, creating Esperanza events, celebrating our scholars, and much more. We are currently seeking Scholar Success and Communications Co-Chairs.
Attend Our Monthly Meeting
If you’re familiar with Esperanza but unsure about taking a leadership role, attend our monthly meetings to get the most up-to-date information on our organization and scholars, and learn what it’s like to be part of our volunteer leadership. Meetings are the first Monday of every month starting at 6:30 p.m.
Be A Reader
Reading applications is one of the core volunteer activities of Esperanza. Volunteers read and score hundreds of applications to whittle them down to the 30 students we interview in person. Each application takes about 15 minutes to complete, and you must commit to scoring 10 applications. Reading only requires a computer, an internet connection, and some of your time and attention. Sign up to be a reader.
Lend Your Expertise
Career Day is one of our signature annual events. Every year, we bring scholars, mentors, and volunteers together to review scholars’ resumes, run mock interviews, and conduct presentations on topics for our aspiring professionals. If you want to participate in the annual event or be available for scholars each year to help out as they apply to internships and jobs, sign up to lend your expertise.
Throw Us A Party
If happy hours and ice cream socials are more your vibe, help us out with our events! In addition to our annual Benefit Concert, we throw smaller events throughout the year and can always use help coordinating events, getting email signups at events, or simply talking to people about Esperanza.
Mentor a Scholar
Because we know getting through college requires more than money, we match scholars with local mentors who are passionate about supporting students throughout their college education and serve as an additional resource to navigate college and the challenges they will face to develop personally and professionally. Esperanza mentors are accomplished professionals dedicated to giving back to their community. Learn more about becoming a mentor.
From time to time, our scholars may need assistance navigating issues related to immigration. If you are interested and able to be a resource related to immigration, please let us know.
