Our Stories: Santiago, Scholar (2012)

Santiago is an Ecuadorian immigrant who earned straight A’s in an advanced curriculum while working 20 hours a week as a self-taught web designer and serving as president of three student organizations, including one he founded to promote higher education among Latino students. After he graduated from Reynolds Community College with an Associates of Science in Engineering degree (and a 4.0 GPA!) he transferred to Virginia Tech on a full scholarship where he is pursuing his civil engineering degree.
