Our Stories: Nhu, Scholar (2019)

Nhu—a young woman from Vietnam and an aspiring physician—made her mark in school as the founder of two different clubs. First, she started Badminton Club, which introduced the sport and created a safe space for this after-school activity. Second, she gave back to the ESOL community by creating the ESOL Bridge Club, which established personalized Spanish-based tutoring for students at lunch time and after school. Nhu maintained a 4.0 GPA and interned at the Environmental Microbial & Food Safety Lab (U.S. Department of Agriculture), where she plans to continue interning while studying Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Maryland, College Park.
