Our Stories: Enji, Scholar (2014)

EnjiEnji is a Mongolian immigrant who was valedictorian of her class, revived her school’s Red Cross Club, and received a letter of gratitude from the Mongolian Parliament for collecting coats for the needy, all while working two jobs and taking care of her younger sister after school. She  is studying business and education at James Madison University.

Enji interned at the American Red Cross in the summer of 2015, after she made a connection at Esperanza’s benefit concert.

Thanks to an Esperanza connection, I interned at the [American Red Cross] Headquarters for Disaster Dispatch as well as the Disaster Operations Coordination Center. It was an amazing experience and I met so many new people. We were very busy due to the Texas floods, and I worked on two projects – recruiting volunteers for the Docent Program Project, and writing an executive summary for level 2 and above disasters.
