Alice Wang, Co-Founder, served as Chair of the Board of Directors from 2009 to 2015. Her work on Esperanza is a tribute to her parents, who immigrated from Taiwan in pursuit of higher education, and to the generous scholarships that supported her education and career—especially the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, through which she met Esperanza co-Founder Alvaro Bedoya.
Alice is a Deputy Chief of the Appellate Division at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where she has worked since 2005. A native Texan, she holds a B.A. in English and Economics from The University of Texas at Austin, and a J.D. from Harvard.
I’m deeply inspired by the courage and resilience of Esperanza scholars, and the energy and commitment of Esperanza volunteers and donors.
