On Wednesday, September 21st, Esperanza was thrilled to support Esperanza Board Member Emeritus Julissa Arce and her forthcoming book, “My (Underground) American Dream: My True Story as an Undocumented Immigrant Who Became a Wall Street Executive“. In her talk, Julissa used her powerful story of both struggle and success to contextualize the broader implications of current American immigration policy and how it impacts the undocumented community.
Julissa is an emerging and leading voice in the fight for immigrant rights and education equality. She is a former board member who went on to found Ascend Educational Fund, Esperanza’s sister scholarship fund and mentorship program for immigrant students in New York City! Julissa made national and international headlines when she revealed that she had achieved the American Dream of wealth and status at Goldman Sachs while undocumented. Julissa is truly an inspiration, and Esperanza is proud to support her work furthering immigrant rights.
