Nearly 200 friends of Esperanza gathered on Thursday night for our annual gala and benefit concert at the Mexican Cultural Institute. Prior to the musical program, 2014 Esperanza Scholar Keisna, gave a moving keynote about Esperanza’s impact on her life. For the musical program, violinist Masha Lakisova and cellist Isaiah Kim, of the Heifetz International Music Institute, amazed the audience with their thrilling and virtuosic performances. After a thunderous standing ovation, 2011 Esperanza Scholar and Alumni Committee Chair Stephanie Martinez moved much of the audience to tears with her story about how Esperanza helped her achieve her dream of becoming a civil engineer–which she achieved after graduating from University of Maryland in 2015. Esperanza Scholar Georges introduced special honoree Kavitha Cardoza, who received the third annual Esperanza Award for her work in bringing hope to the immigrant community. Finally, Board Chair Francella Chinchilla and Founder Alvaro Bedoya recognized two volunteers, Alison Collier and Alex Lin, with Esperanza’s Volunteer-of-the-Year award, for their contributions in support of Esperanza’s mission.
Thank you for making our anniversary celebration such a success! We had a great time with you, and most importantly, we raised funds that will go towards our next round of scholarships! We’re particularly grateful for the support of our sponsors: AT&T, WilmerHale, The Embassy of Mexico, Tom Olson, and Peter Skiff.
If you weren’t able to attend there’s still time to make a contribution to this year’s scholarships.
