2015 Scholar’s Incredible Story Featured on NPR

Beating the Odds is a series on NPR station, WAMU 88.5, featuring local high school seniors who “seem destined to succeed despite overwhelming challenges.” Education reporter Kavitha Cardoza reached out to us for inspirational scholar stories again this year and selected Georges, Esperanza Class of 2015, as one of only two students featured. Kavitha was moved by Georges’ story of leaving Cameroon after his mother was stabbed in the back and his father had to seek political asylum in the US. Esperanza is supporting Georges with a scholarship to Temple University, where he plans to study actuarial science. Click here to read the full WAMU story, including Georges’ own take on adjusting to life in the US despite incredible odds.
