Five Years and Counting…

2013 was an incredible year for us. During 2013, Esperanza:
  • Awarded $90,000 in grants to ten scholars;
  • Received a record number of scholarship applications;
  • Achieved 100% attendance at our fourth annual Career Day;
  • Hosted our first-ever graduation party for Esperanza scholars; and
  • Hired our first paid staff member, a part-time Director of Operations!

As we approach our fifth anniversary, we want to acknowledge and thank the people who have such a milestone possible: You. Thanks to your financial support, we’ve been able to award more than $450,000 to 50 local students; you’ve contributed your time to reading thousands of scholarship applications; your professional expertise and mentorship have shaped the careers of our scholars; and your enthusiasm has created a cohort of energetic volunteers (and a part-time staff member) actively giving back to their local community.

To celebrate, we’re thrilled to announce that Emmy-nominated pianists Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Roe will be this year’s featured musical performers at Esperanza’s Fifth Anniversary Gala to be held on Friday, March 14th at the Carnegie Institute in Washington DC. Anderson and Roe have appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered and MTV’s Total Request Live, while their recent album, When Worlds Fade, topped the Billboard Classical charts for over a dozen weeks. Please save the date for this exciting event.

Looking forward to celebrating our fifth anniversary with all of you—and for many more anniversaries to come!
